Using Bluebeam to design our AIA booth

May 3, 2010

A few weeks ago we announced that we’re going to have a huge, 20 ft x 30 ft booth at AIA this June, and we posted some sneak peek images, too. Today, we’re giving you a glimpse at our design process, to show you how Bluebeam PDF Revu helped create Bluebeam’s largest trade show booth ever. Take a look:

During the design phase we used Revu to redline PDF drawings of our plans.

We also made PDF image boards to spec out booth components. Thank you Insert Image tool!

Sequenced markups are a nifty way to layout computer stations.

Revu’s markup tools even helped us plan out our computer and monitor connections.

Stay tuned for more hints about our booth and the amazing new technology we’ll be launching at AIA. And remember, to keep on PDFin’!

A video testimonial from Ecobuild UK

March 22, 2010

Last week I blogged about how my coworkers and Mighty Bluebeam made new friends at Ecobuild UK, a huge green building conference that took place earlier this month. One of these new friends is Anthony George of P.C. Landscapes. Anthony first discovered Bluebeam at last year’s Ecobuild. This year, he stopped by to tell us how much easier it is to create PDFs from AutoCAD and add logos and other markups now that he has Bluebeam. Check it out:

Don’ forget, we want to hear from you, too! Email me if you want to be a part of the “Bluebeam User Story” video series. And remember, to keep on PDFin’!

A Nail-Biting TV Special on Concrete Contractors

January 19, 2010

This past weekend I caught the tail-end of a special History Channel show, Jobsite: Concrete Countdown. This one hour episode details a construction crew pouring the top floor of a Manhattan skyscraper. The catch? They only have 90 minutes to get the concrete from the ground, up 700 feet to the 60th floor and poured before it dries up.

I know a lot of you deal with high-pressure jobsite situations like this one all the time. But let me tell you, I was definitely on the edge of my seat! And it put into perspective the importance of clearly and accurately documenting project information with solutions like Bluebeam.

If you’re interested in watching the episode yourself, it’s airing again on Saturday, January 23rd at 6pm. And remember, to keep on PDFin’!

Bluebeam’s Picks for Best Places to Eat & Drink in Pasadena, CA

December 18, 2009

In the next few weeks, a lot of people will be traveling to our neck of the woods, Pasadena, CA. They’ll be coming for the Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl Game on January 1st, as well as the BCS National Championship on January 7th. And while they’re here, I’m guessing they’re going to want to find a good place to eat!

So in the spirit of hospitality, I polled my coworkers and put together this list of best places to eat and drink in Pasadena, CA:

Best Coffee:
Zona Rosa Caffe

There are quite a few coffee shops by our offices, and this one isn’t one of the closest. But we still trek on over to Zona Rosa, because their coffee is that good.

Best Breakfast:
Russell’s

I’ll admit it – I’ve never eaten here. But when I asked them for a good breakfast spot, a couple of our developers swore by this place. They’re pretty picky when it comes to food, so I trust their judgment.

Best Lunch – TIE
Mediterranean Café

Mmmm…falafels!

It’s the tastiest Mediterranean food I’ve ever had! Their line moves quickly, so step aside to look at the menu first before going to the cash register to order.

Lovebird’s Café & Bakery

Lovebirds makes delicious sandwiches, salads and baked goods. Some of my favorites include the avocado BLT and Thanksgiving turkey sandwich, served year round!

Best Dinner
Villa Sorriso

Are you a fan of Italian food? Then come to Villa Sorriso. Take advantage of southern California’s mild “winter” climate, and enjoy your meal in the outdoor seating area.

Best Place for Drinks
Lucky Baldwin’s

This pub has a great selection of beers on tap, including beer from Pasadena’s very own Craftsman Brewing. If you stop by to have a pint, you might even see some Bluebeamers unwinding after a long, hard day of PDFin’.

Safe travels to everyone heading to Pasadena in the next few weeks. And remember, to keep on PDFin’!

Bluebeam Quick Clip: Inserting Photos onto PDFs

October 19, 2009

It’s Bluebeam Quick Clip Time! Today’s video is all about photographs, and no, I’m not talking about the Def Leppard song.

The ability to markup PDFs with Bluebeam’s redlining tools is great – it let’s you add important details directly onto drawings. But sometimes, words alone just can’t properly explain an issue or need. And that’s where Bluebeam’s Insert Image tool comes into play. Click on the video below to watch this very popular Bluebeam feature in action.

By the way, the Bluebeam Quick Clip doesn’t have any sound, so you can go ahead and click on this YouTube link to listen to Def Leppard while you’re watching the video (you know you want to.)

And remember, to keep on PDF’ing!

Oops, I made a mistake

July 13, 2009

I am very accident prone.  I spill hot coffee on myself and I’ve scraped my car’s side view mirror on the hedges in my driveway more than once.  I’ve also accidentally added misspelled words to Revu’s spellcheck dictionary, deleted Tool Sets and saved over Revu profiles.  Oops!

I’ve yet to figure out a way to make the chipped paint on my car magically fix itself, but I am very thankful that Bluebeam has quite a few “Do-Over” features that let me fix my mistakes.

Spellcheck – Don’t ask me how I managed to add “fixutre” into my Revu dictionary. Luckily, it’s easy to manage the Revu spellcheck dictionary. Just go to Edit/Preferences/Spelling. Highlight the word you want to remove and click the X.

Goodbye misspelled words.

Goodbye misspelled words.

Tool Set – Have you ever accidentally clicked the “x” on a Tool Set and removed it from the Tool Chest? Don’t worry, this one is really easy to fix! Just click the Manage Tool Set icon. A new window will display, showing all Tool Sets that you’ve loaded in Revu, so that you can turn it back on in the Tool Chest.

Manage Tool Set Icon

By selecting Manage Tool Sets, you’ll have the opportunity to redisplay Tool Sets in the Tool Chest.

Total Do-Over – Want to get back to Revu’s “out of the box” settings?  You can reset all of Revu’s settings by going to the Revu tab on the Bluebeam Administrator (Help/Administrator).  Just know that if you reset Revu’s settings, you’ll lose anything you’ve added to My Tools, plus any custom Tool Sets or Profiles.  So be sure to back those up before clicking Reset.

Back up your custom Tool Sets and Profiles before you click this button!

Back up your custom Tool Sets and Profiles before you click this button!

If you ever need any help figuring out how to fix another mistake, you can always contact Bluebeam tech support. And remember to keep on PDF’ing!
