Two New Tool Sets Now Available for Bluebeam Revu

Customize, customize, customize! We like the sound of that word at Bluebeam, and are happy to announce that we have created two new customized tools sets for Revu featuring a variety of Fire & Life Safety and Security & CCTV markup symbols.

You asked for it, so we made it! We’ve just created a new, free tool set of electrical symbols.

This tool set can be yours!

This tool set is packed full of markups that you can easily place on your drawings, change the color and resize. You can get it (and many other tool sets) for free here.

For those of you that are not familiar with Revu’s toolsets, you’ll definitely want to know all about these time-saving treasures. Tool sets are groups of specialized markup symbols that are saved in Revu’s exclusive Tool Chest and are fully customizable for each user.  Learn more about tool sets here.

Favorite Feature Friday – The Tool Chest

It’s Favorite Feature Friday, and today we have two Bluebeamers dressed up to demonstrate the wonderfulness that is the Bluebeam Tool Chest:

An oldie but a goodie, the Tool Chest has been around since day 1 of Revu. You can access the Tool Chest by clicking the blue bar in the middle left of the Revu interface to open the left dock, going to View/Tabs/Tool Chest or using keyboard shortcut Alt+X.

This exclusive feature tracks all the markups you make in your session of Bluebeam and saves them in your Recent Tools (1). If you want to place that markup again, just select it and go. And if you know you’ll use that markup over and over again across sessions, just drag it up to My Tools (2). Bluebeam also provides a number additional tool sets for free, which you can download into your session of Revu either from the Tool Set section of the Start page, or from this page on our website (3). Finally, you can create your own Tool Sets (4) and share them with your friends and colleagues. To learn how, check out this video. And remember, to keep on PDFin’!

Celebrate National Punctuation Day with Bluebeam

Tomorrow is National Punctuation Day – a celebration of apostrophes, brackets, exclamation points and more. Join in the festivities by loading Bluebeam’s Proofreading Symbols tool set into Revu from our Resources page. Use these tools to redline PDFs that contain punctuation errors.

Let Bluebeam make a free custom tool set for you!

Is there a Bluebeam tool set that you’ve been meaning to make, but just haven’t had time? If so, today’s your lucky day!

Bluebeam’s intern Daniel has been challenged to create as many user-requested tool sets as possible over the next month. Sequenced electrical outlets, door and window symbols, text boxes preloaded with common comments…your wish is Daniel’s command.

PDF Markup Tools for Designing a Winter Wonderland

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Festive music is in the air, there’s a cold chill in the air and snow on the ground. Well, okay maybe there isn’t snow here in Pasadena. But trust me we’ve had a very cold December, by southern California standards, that is.

Anyways, to celebrate the changing season, I thought it was time to share some appropriate PDF markup symbols. After all, as you’re designing your gingerbread houses, snowmen and other wintery décor, you’ll want to keep those plans paperless and in PDF, right?

I made these fun symbols by using Bluebeam’s PDF markup tools, mainly by drawing out and then grouping polygons, ellipses, arcs and curves. For the markups with pairs, like the ice skates, I only drew the symbol once. Then I copied and pasted the symbol onto the PDF again, and used the Flip Horizontal icon on Bluebeam’s Alignment toolbar so I could have a left and right ice skate. Pretty nifty, huh?

Editing PDF Files: 3 Bluebeam Features I Can’t Live Without

Bluebeam is a great PDF editor with several tools that enable users to redline and edit PDF drawings. But if you had to pick just three PDF editing features in Bluebeam that you couldn’t live without, what would they be? Here’s my list:

I have a need for speed, but I’m really bad at remembering keyboard shortcuts. That’s why I love the right-click shortcut for assembling PDF documents in Revu. From the Thumbnails panel I can just right click and add, delete, insert, insert blank, rotate, copy and paste PDF pages. It truly is PDF editing made easy!

PDF editing feature I can’t live without #2:
The Typewriter tool

This is the easiest I’ve ever found to add text to PDFs. I use it all the time when reviewing and editing PDFs. I just grab it, click on the PDF and start typing. In fact, I have the Typewriter annotation (set with Century Gothic, my favorite font) saved in my Tool Chest. And that brings me to my final Bluebeam PDF editing feature I can’t live without…

A Trick or Treat Special for Bluebeam PDF Revu Users

In honor of Halloween, I thought I’d treat the Bluebeam faithfuls with this hauntingly cool Bluebeam Tool Set of Spooktacular Symbols!

You can download this free Tool Set and import it into Bluebeam from our Resources page.

What trickery did I use to create these frightful PDF markups? First, I traced over some free vector symbols that I found online using Bluebeam’s markup tools, mainly the polygon and polyline. For the most part, I traced while Bluebeam’s Snap to Content button was turned on. It was a piece of cake!

And, because Bluebeam supports curved annotations, I was able to draw all these unique shapes with markup tools. To finish them off, I chose some unique colors by entering in RGB codes in the color menu, grouped the markups and then added them to my Tool Chest.

Download the Tool Set now and create some boo-tiful Halloween designs. And remember, to keep on PDF’ing!

How Bluebeam’s PDF Markup Tools Mimic Pen and Paper

When I talk about how Bluebeam helps design and construction firms go paperless, I always mention that Bluebeam’s PDF markup tools provide industry-standard tools for redlining drawings. So even though you’re marking up PDFs electronically and not using pen and paper, you’re still using the trusted tools of the trade.

For example, not too long ago, if you needed to redline a drawing with a circle, you probably would have used a compass. Now you can use Bluebeam’s ellipse tool.

Turn your favorite pens, highlighters and more into a Bluebeam tool set

One of my favorite features in Revu is the ability to create custom markups and save them in the Tool Chest. I know I talk about this feature a lot. Today I thought it’d be cool to show you step by step how to create digital versions of the tools I have sitting on my desk.

Let’s start by looking at what’s on my desk:

Okay, so I might have a bit of a hard time creating a magic wand markup. But the highlighters and pens are easy to recreate. For example, here’s how to create and save a green highlighter:

  1. Select the highlighter tool.
  2. Change the highlighter color to green from the toolbar.
  3. Make a highlight mark.
  4. Right-click and select Add to My ToolChest/My Tools

When you add a markup to the Tool Chest, it is initially saved in drawing mode, which means that you can select it to replicate that exact same markup – some color, opacity, shape and size. You can double click on a markup to put it into properties mode.

Once in properties mode, you can select a saved markup, for example, the green highlighter, and make a green highlight mark of any shape or size.

Now that you know how easy it is to create and save custom markups, go ahead and make digital versions of your favorite tools! And remember, to keep on PDF’ing!
