Blasting Paper Construction Submittals to PDF

In the past month we’ve shared two great case studies from construction firms using Bluebeam PDF Revu to digitize submittals. First up was Turner Construction, who is using Revu on the Cobb County Superior Courthouse Project in Marrietta, GA. They are halfway through the project and so far have saved 63% of printing and shipping fees. Nice!

The second great story came from Balfour Beatty Construction. Using Bluebeam on the Gateway Church Project, this team eliminated all costs associated with printing and shipping submittals with the exception of material samples. Wow!

Sign up for a free AIA 2010 Expo Hall pass

Are you in the Miami area but not yet signed up for the AIA National Convention and Expo? If so, I just received a promo code for a free Expo Only pass that can help you out.

After nearly a year of planning, we’re excited to share this sneak peek video documenting how we designed our 2010 AIA Expo booth and modeled it after Mighty Bluebeam’s Station 32 command center. Check it out:

A very important question for Bluebeam users

Hello Bluebeamers! I have a request from our development team. They really appreciate all the feedback and suggestions you send them via suggestions@bluebeam.com, this blog and through phone and email conversations. But there’s one lingering user question out there that our engineers really want to answer:

I’m not kidding. They really want to identify the favorite Star Wars character of Bluebeam users. They also said you can write in answers below, but that prequel-only characters don’t count. :-) So please vote to help bring balance to the Force (aka, keep the engineers happy). Help us save Sammy the pigeon!

Look what we found in our office this morning:

It’s Sammy the pigeon. Somehow over the weekend this bird made Bluebeam his new home. We’ve been trying all morning long to relocate Sammy back to the great outdoors (aka Pasadena city streets). First we called animal control.

But Sammy was perched so high up, he couldn’t be caught. Then we tried to make a pigeon trap, complete with bread crumbs as bait.

But Sammy’s one smart pigeon, and didn’t fall for our ploy. We’ve even opened up our balcony doors and posted pictures of pigeons outside, hoping Sammy will want to meet up with his feathered friends.

No luck yet! Do you know how we can safely and humanely relocate Sammy? If so, let me know! And remember, to keep on PDFin’!

We’re up to something

This photo was taken in Bluebeam’s lobby yesterday afternoon. It has something to do with our huge booth at the upcoming AIA Expo taking place this June in Miami. And it is most definitely related to the incredible new technology we’ll be debuting at the show.

You know you’re working hard when…

…you break the PDF specification. Well, the book, anyways.

We broke the PDF specification book!

In our developers’ library, the PDF specification book is beat and abused. In fact, it’s ripped in half!

This is what the book used to look like…you know, before our developers got their hands on it.

Our developers rely on these 1,200+ pages of PDF goodness to create awesome Bluebeam PDF Revu features and ensure that every PDF created, redlined and edited in Bluebeam will display in any PDF viewer.

Our developers have read this book more times than they’ve read Lord of the Rings. Amazing!

Well they used to read this book. These photos are of an older version, kept as a keepsake. Since then, the PDF standard has gone digital. The entire document is available in, you guessed it – PDF!

Using Bluebeam to design our AIA booth

A few weeks ago we announced that we’re going to have a huge, 20 ft x 30 ft booth at AIA this June, and we posted some sneak peek images, too. Today, we’re giving you a glimpse at our design process, to show you how Bluebeam PDF Revu helped create Bluebeam’s largest trade show booth ever. Take a look:

During the design phase we used Revu to redline PDF drawings of our plans.

We also made PDF image boards to spec out booth components. Thank you Insert Image tool!

Sequenced markups are a nifty way to layout computer stations.

Revu’s markup tools even helped us plan out our computer and monitor connections.
