Star Wars LEGOs invade our office…

I want to tell you a little something about one of our lead software developers, Peter. You may have heard him in our latest Bluebeam podcast. And, I bet when you were listening to him talk about designing the new features in Bluebeam PDF Revu 8, you had no idea that he has also built quite a massive LEGO collection.

Well, believe me, he has. He’s even brought some of his most treasured bricks, Star Wars LEGOs from A New Hope, into Bluebeam to show us! Take a look:

See, I wasn’t kidding when I said Peter has a lot of LEGOs.

A video testimonial from Ecobuild UK

Last week I blogged about how my coworkers and Mighty Bluebeam made new friends at Ecobuild UK, a huge green building conference that took place earlier this month. One of these new friends is Anthony George of P.C. Landscapes. Anthony first discovered Bluebeam at last year’s Ecobuild. This year, he stopped by to tell us how much easier it is to create PDFs from AutoCAD and add logos and other markups now that he has Bluebeam. Check it out:

Mighty Bluebeam makes new friends at Ecobuild

What a lucky guy!

Our paper-fighting superhero Mighty Bluebeam is back from Ecobuild, and boy does he have some stories to tell. From March 2nd to 4th, he and a handful of my Bluebeam colleagues exhibited at this London conference, dubbed the world’s largest event for green building.

Team Bluebeam reports that Ecobuild was a huge success, with several current users stopping by to say “Hello.” Many more attendees were drawn to our comic book themed booth, and blown away by Bluebeam PDF Revu 8 and its custom PDF markup tools, Tool Chest, electronic takeoffs and more.

Stay tuned for a special video testimonial from a Bluebeam user, taken live on the Ecobuild trade show floor. And remember, to keep on PDFin’!

So you want to use Bluebeam on a Mac, eh?

I have an update!

Today with the launch of Bluebeam Revu 10, we are also launching our first of two iPad apps. Woo hoo! Say hello to Bluebeam Vu™ for iPad. With Vu you can sync and view PDFs, organize them, and navigate to markups through the integrated Markups list. Download it in the App Store today! Oh, did we mention it’s free?

Of course, we know you need to do more than just view PDFs on the iPad, and that’s why we’re releasing Bluebeam Revu for iPad later this year. This paid app will bring some of your favorite PDF markup and editing features from your PC onto your iPad, so stay tuned!

Let me guess – did you just go to Google and type in “Bluebeam for Mac” and find this post? Well, if so, hello! I hope that this blog will help you get up and running with Bluebeam on your Mac very soon.

Now for the “probably not what you’re hoping for” answer: We don’t have a Mac version of Bluebeam PDF Revu. That doesn’t mean we never will – trust me, we know you want Mac compatibility, and we want to give it to you someday.

In the mean time, we do have many Mac users who run Bluebeam on Windows all the time. You too can toggle between both operating systems using solutions such as Boot Camp (now a built in part of OS X) or Parallels.

So go ahead, test this out using Bluebeam’s 30 day trial, and feel free to leave your feedback below or send us your suggestions to suggestions@bluebeam.com. And remember to keep on PDFin’!

A nifty way to use Bluebeam’s Action Markups

Action Markups (new in Revu 8) are a cool enhancement to Bluebeam. Now you can take any annotation and configure it to open a website, jump to a specific portion of the PDF or open an entirely different file when clicked.

In my opinion, one of the niftiest ways to use this new tool is to drag and drop related files over annotations, instantly linking them to the markup. It’s great for easily sharing images, RFIs, specifications and other files that help answer project questions.

Let me show you what I mean:

This PDF has a few comments that are referring to other documents and images. Rather than just describing where viewers can find additional information, you can now attach those files directly to the markups.

Just drag and drop a file from the File Explorer, your desktop or other Explorer window on top of the markup.

Now the cloud markup is configured to open up the staircase image when clicked. You can tell that a markup is configured to perform an action because it will display a little lightning bolt to the bottom right of the annotation (see the circled area below).

The lightning bolt tells the tale!

Now when clicked, this markup will open the associated image.

Don’t forget to use Action Markups the next time you need to reference or attach additional files, and remember to keep on PDFin’!

Where you can see Bluebeam this March

Talk about a crazy travel schedule. This month, Bluebeam Software is exhibiting at four conferences on two continents!

First up is Ecobuild, taking place this week at Earls Court in London. Bluebeam will be exhibiting March 2nd – 4th in Stand 1831.

After that, it’s off to Orlando, Florida for some fun in the sun at the AGC Annual Convention & Pavilion. This conference is taking place March 17th – 20th, and Bluebeam will be in booth B20.

Next up, we’re heading back to Europe. But this time, we’ll be in Stockholm, Sweden to show off the Swedish version of Bluebeam PDF Revu at Nordbygg. Come see us March 23rd to 26th in stand A24:29.

And finally, rounding off the month is the FIATECH 2010 Technology Conference & Showcase in Austin, Texas (mmm…BBQ!). Making this trip even more special, our very own VP of Engineering Don Jacob will be hosting an educational session about the roles that PDF and other 2D file formats play in Building Information Modeling (BIM). The conference is taking place March 29th – 31st, and Don’s educational session is on Wednesday, March 31st at 10:45am.
