A Trick or Treat Special for Bluebeam PDF Revu Users

In honor of Halloween, I thought I’d treat the Bluebeam faithfuls with this hauntingly cool Bluebeam Tool Set of Spooktacular Symbols!

You can download this free Tool Set and import it into Bluebeam from our Resources page.

What trickery did I use to create these frightful PDF markups? First, I traced over some free vector symbols that I found online using Bluebeam’s markup tools, mainly the polygon and polyline. For the most part, I traced while Bluebeam’s Snap to Content button was turned on. It was a piece of cake!

And, because Bluebeam supports curved annotations, I was able to draw all these unique shapes with markup tools. To finish them off, I chose some unique colors by entering in RGB codes in the color menu, grouped the markups and then added them to my Tool Chest.

Download the Tool Set now and create some boo-tiful Halloween designs. And remember, to keep on PDF’ing!

We had so much fun at AIA 2009, that we decided to put together a video of the crowd at our booth. And the PDF Insider readers loved it! The PDF Insider goes to Hollywood for the PRSA-LA PRism Awards

Last Thursday was the 2009 PRism Award banquet. The contest, hosted by the Public Relations Society of America, Los Angeles Chapter (PRSA-LA), celebrates outstanding communication campaigns. This year, the PDF Insider was a finalist in the blogs category, so we braved Los Angeles rush hour traffic and carpooled over to Hollywood for the awards banquet.

The event’s theme was “The Next Frontier,” so there was a lot of talk about how professionals use blogs and social media like Twitter and Facebook (yes, those are links to Bluebeam’s accounts. Follow and fan us!). To tie in with that theme, the banquet’s center pieces included colorful glow sticks! As you can see from the photos below, we had a lot of (and perhaps too much) fun embracing the “future” theme.

At the end of the night Jill (the master behind the Bluebeam Insider Newsletter) won a very cool door prize – a weekend get-away to a Hollywood resort. I hope she takes me!

In the end, the PDF Insider didn’t win the coveted PRism Award, but we did snag an Award of Excellence! Not bad for an 8-month old blog, eh? So thanks for reading and commenting on the blog, and making it a cool place to talk about Bluebeam. And remember to keep on PDF’ing!

Make your redlines stand out

How many markups are on this drawing?

It’s a little hard to tell because the markups blend in with this colorful drawing, right? Well, don’t worry. You don’t need to see an eye doctor or send away for special decoder glasses. You just need to use Bluebeam’s Dimmer tool to dim the underlying content of your PDFs. This will surely make your redlines stand out! You’ll find this nifty feature in the bottom right-hand corner of Revu. It looks like a light bulb.

You can even control just how much Revu will dim the underlying content. See, I’ve chosen to dim this PDF drawing by 40%.

And with those simple steps, we now have a dimmed PDF! Look how much easier it is to see the six markups.

So, the next time you’re reviewing a PDF and have difficulty figuring out what’s a markup and what’s part of the original file, don’t reach for your phone to schedule an optometry appointment. Just hit Bluebeam’s Dimmer tool, and keep on PDF’ing!

Bluebeam + Sweden = Good Times

Last week Team Bluebeam exhibited at Tekniska Mässan in Stockholm, Sweden to announce the new Swedish version of Bluebeam PDF Revu. As they say in Swedish, the show was a jättesuccé (huge success). The team even had a chance to do a little exploring around Stockholm and good times were had by all!

You can see for yourself in the slide show below. Now, you’ll notice that I’m missing from these photos. You see, this is yet again another cool trip that I did not go on (to read more of my complaints, see this, and this). But that’s okay, because from the looks of these photos, it was really cold in Stockholm last week! And, as a California native, I consider anything below 70ºF “freezing.”

Bluebeam Quick Clip: Inserting Photos onto PDFs

It’s Bluebeam Quick Clip Time! Today’s video is all about photographs, and no, I’m not talking about the Def Leppard song.

The ability to markup PDFs with Bluebeam’s redlining tools is great – it let’s you add important details directly onto drawings. But sometimes, words alone just can’t properly explain an issue or need. And that’s where Bluebeam’s Insert Image tool comes into play. Click on the video below to watch this very popular Bluebeam feature in action.

By the way, the Bluebeam Quick Clip doesn’t have any sound, so you can go ahead and click on this YouTube link to listen to Def Leppard while you’re watching the video (you know you want to.)

Bluebeam Takes its Paperless Message to the AIA CC Monterey Design Conference

This week, team Bluebeam is in Sweden. But last week, we were representing the paperless movement on California’s Central Coast during the AIA California Council’s Monterey Design Conference (MDC). Yeah…we get around.

For those who don’t know, the MDC, a bi-annual conference for California’s leading architecture firms, is anything but your typical business event. It’s held at the peaceful Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, CA. The venue, which feels more like a nature resort than a business center, made this year’s MDC the perfect place to talk about reducing paper usage. And that’s just what my Bluebeam coworkers did! In fact, on Friday Bluebeam presented an educational session on going paperless.

My fellow Bluebeamers also had a chance to meet with firms tackling paperless workflows, and even take in some of the local sights. Here are some of their photos:

Bluebeam’s Big Swedish News!

“Skapa, uppmärkning och redigera PDF-filer med den Svenska versionen av Bluebeam PDF Revu!”

That’s Swedish for “Create, markup and edit PDFs with the Swedish version of Bluebeam PDF Revu.” And that’s exactly what my coworkers over in Sweden are saying today at Tekniska Mässan, the huge Scandinavian technical fair taking place this week in Stockholm. Because today, Bluebeam Software officially announced the release of a Swedish localized version of its PDF editor, Bluebeam PDF Revu. You can read all about it here. And remember, to keep on PDF’ing (in Swedish now, too!).

Guess where Bluebeam’s going next!

“Bluebeam kommer till Sverige!”

For those of you who don’t speak Swedish, that (hopefully) says “Bluebeam is going to Sweden!” And no, we’re not going to load up on meatballs and IKEA furniture, although that wouldn’t be so bad.

You see, tomorrow is the opening day of Tekniska Mässan, the biggest technical fair for the Nordic and Baltic regions’ manufacturing industries. Bluebeam will be exhibiting and demonstrating Bluebeam PDF Revu all week long as a featured partner in the CADtorget booth, #A01:40. And we have a pretty cool announcement coming up, too. So stay tuned, both to this blog and Twitter (I’m @Bluebeam), where I’ll be sharing photos of Team Bluebeam and tweets from my coworker Stephani, who is attending the show. And remember, to keep on PDF’ing!

Earlier this week, I posted this blog about the USGBC’s request for videos and photos depicting what the green building community is most proud of.

Well to answer the call, I grabbed a handful of my coworkers and we made this video.
